The City has currently contracted it's local curb side residential garbage pick up with Moring Disposal.  If you have any immediate concerns with curb side pick up, either contact our Utility office at (815) 622-1115 or contact Moring Disposal at the number below.

The City Garbage system makes it money for the service that is provided from two sources, the flat rate on the utility bill, and bag sales.  The Garbage department is not supported by property taxes, nor by sales taxes.

Currently, the flat rate for garbage service is $8.25 (last updated 11/06/06)

Residents are required to put all of their curb side garbage in either a bag or in a recycling bin.  The City of Rock Falls Garbage bags are sold at many retailers in both Rock Falls and also the City of Sterling.  They are available for $7 for a sleeve of 5 white 32-gallon bags, or $7 for a sleeve of 10 16-gallon green bags

Late Days for Garbage Service

Curb side garbage service occurs in Rock Falls on Thursday and Friday morning depending on your location within the city.  Residents are advised to place their garbage out the night before the pick up days. There are certain holidays that move these days back a day, so if normal garbage service is supposed to be on Thursday and during the week one of these days fall, then garbage would be moved back to Friday.  If normal garbage service is supposed to be picked up on Friday and one of these days fall, then garbage service will be on Saturday.  Below is the list of days that adjusts pick up days for 2008.

Recycle Bins

The Recycle bins are available from the Customer Service office at City Hall.  New homes that are built in the city are provided one for free.  People looking to replace missing or damaged ones have to pay for the bins, which are $9 a piece (last updated 03/06/08) .

Dumpster Use

Residents are disallowed by ordinance from having a dumpster at their residence all-year round.  However residents can get a permit for a dumpster for $5 at the Building Department office.  This permit allows any size dumpster to be placed on a residential lot within the City for 30 days.  After the 30 days are up, then a resident can get another permit.  Only two permits will be issued to any residence for any one year.
